Elm Residential College’s (RC) communal areas such as the Dining Hall, Common Lounge, buttery and offices were arranged around a large central courtyard.
This courtyard contained plants that flourish in the tropical environment of Singapore—such as palms, cycads and ferns—as well as a large grass lawn. At one end, there was a patio area where students studied and socialised, and where the student-run coffee cart Brewhouse operated until May 2023. The offices of CIPE, the College’s Centre for International & Professional Experience, were also located near the patio area.
One unique feature of Elm was that the students, known as The Elmighties, all lived in residential suites contained within a single tower, rather than being spread out over two towers.
In this tour you will be able to explore all these areas and more. You will also meet some of the people —like former staff member Austin Shiner and Residential Life Officer Leonard Chan—who helped make Elm such a special place.
