Situated at the northern tip of the campus, Cendana Residential College (RC) found itself somewhat isolated from the other RCs. Separated from Elm and Saga by the Campus Green, Library, and Arts Centre, Cendana acquired the nickname ‘Pulau Cendana’ (‘pulau’ means island in Malay).
However, the Cendols —as Cendana’s residents were known —soon embraced the situation and celebrated their independence with the phrase ‘Pulau Proud!’.
Cendana also had the smallest courtyard and buttery of all the RCs, but Cendols would point out that this just brought them closer together and made their gatherings more intimate.
One unique invention was the Cendana blackboard, a large permanent chalk board where Cendols could express themselves through comments, drawings, slogans and jokes. You will see this blackboard, as well as the courtyard, buttery and much more on this tour of Cendana RC.
